Tool & Die Maker - Job Description
Manor Tool is seeking a Tool & Die Maker to join our team in Addison, IL. The Tool & Die Maker is responsible for making and repairing a wide variety of tools, dies, fixtures, and related metal fabrications for operations in the press room and machine shop. May assist junior toolmakers and apprentices as requested. Manor Tool & Manufacturing Company began as a tool and die shop in 1959 and has grown to become a first-class metal stamping company, specializing in punching, bending, forming and deep drawn stampings. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Studies specifications such as sketches, models or descriptions and visualizes product to determine materials required and machine usage.
- Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method. Determines sequence of operations.
- Measures, mark and/or scribes metal stock for machining.
- Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, mills, shapers, grinders, and all other assigned equipment.
- Build tooling to specifications within the time frame scheduled.
- Verifies dimensions, alignment, and clearances.
- Verifies outside heat treatment and or other secondary work; may heat treat as needed.
- Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures. Recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
- Maintains and repairs existing tooling for production demonstrating proper knowledge of tool/die, timing, and rework techniques for forming, stamping, etc. Seeks assistance when needed.
- Develops specifications from general description for specialty tools; draws or sketches design of tool.
- Lead tool & die projects ensuring on time completion within specifications.
- Report to the tool room supervisor daily on project status.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Receives, understands, and follows all written and oral instruction.
- Timely and accurate completion of all paperwork, move tickets and data collection entry associated with position.
- Support safety and lean initiatives including LEAN and SHARP by working within established OSHA guidelines and continuously looking for improved efficiency.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and attendance requirements.
- Maintain meet or exceed rating on all performance discussions.
- Participate in activities to support company mission, increase personal skill level, departmental processes, and product quality.
- Resolve day-to-day issues by working effectively with others.
- Other duties required to meet company needs as assigned by supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS: - High School Diploma or equivalent and successful completion of Journeyman Tool Maker training through accredited institutions such as TMA.
- Knowledge and ability to apply knowledge to timing, rework, and repair of tools.
- Basic English reading and verbal communication skills
- Ability to pass company ISO, English and Math tests.
- Advanced mathematical skills including algebra and trigonometry.
- Ability to read blueprints, part prints and basic understanding of GDT.
- Ability to use and understand all measuring devices and gages including the calibration process.
- Knowledge and understanding of company safety programs including lockout/tagout and hazcom.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Stamina to work all assigned hours.
- 20/40 vision required with or without correction.
- Required to hear and speak 100% of the workday.
- Ability to use hands 100% of the workday.
- Ability to stand and or walk 100% of the workday.
- Ability to bend, stoop or twist 50% of the workday.
- Ability to exert physical force to push, pull, lift or carry 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work in a shop environment - continuous exposure to potentially hazardous metal working machinery and equipment, loud noises, dust, mist, oils and solvents.
