Maintenance Technician - 2nd or 3rd shift - Job Description


 

POSITION TITLE: Tool Room Machinist & Maintenance

 

REPORTS TO: Production Supervisor

 

POSITION SUMMARY: Provides overall maintenance of machinery, tools and facilities. This includes preventive maintenance activities as well as the installation or removal of equipment. Strong troubleshooting abilities are necessary along with knowledge of industrial machinery, mechanics, hydraulics, electrical, pneumatics, metal properties and machining processes.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Uses analytical troubleshooting skills to diagnose problems and make repairs and corrections based on observation of equipment in operation and product defects.
  2. Dismantles defective machinery and equipment to gain access to problem area or to install new or repaired parts.
  3. Repairs or replaces defective parts, or reproduces parts from various kinds of metal stock using hand tools such as scraper, file, grinder, engine lathe, drill press, mill, and surface grinder.
  4. Realigns and adjusts machine components.
  5. As an authorized lockout tagout employee, is responsible for complying with lockout tagout procedures when engaged in maintenance of equipment and for advising others of the status of maintenance in process.
  6. Assembles and test-operates the machine to verify correction of the malfunction.
  7. Solicits feedback from operators or supervisors regarding the performance of equipment. Provides suggestions to the operators as well.
  8. Performs preventive maintenance procedures on mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis.
  9. Repairs and maintains physical structure of facility.
  10. Understands and interprets electrical diagrams and relates this knowledge to the repair of machinery and facility.
  11. Must have a strong understanding of NFPA 70E standards and be capable of applying these standards in the workplace.
  12. May weld parts using arc or gas welding equipment.
  13. Demonstrates safety awareness by practicing good safety principles and adhering to all safety rules.
  14. Trains all employees assigned.

 

 

 

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

 

  1. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: At least three years of experience in a similar position in a manufacturing environment. Class work toward a two year degree or technical certification is preferred.
  2. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Employee is required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor. Ability to lift/move equipment weighing 50 lbs. or more on a daily basis. In rare instances, may be required to climb, crawl or kneel.

  4. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    1. Visual Acuity: near acuity and accommodation required for reading machine dial gages, blueprints, shop orders, and precision measuring devices.
    2. Hearing Ability: Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.
    3. Working Conditions: The employee is subjected to elevated noise levels from operating machines; physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts, breathing fumes, dusts and mist; skin exposure to oils and cutting fluid.
