Materials Manager - Job Description

Weiler Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Materials Manager to join our team in Elgin, IL.

The Materials Manager position will oversee the planning, procurement, storage, control and distribution of materials and products according to company needs and customer requirements.


  • Develop, plan, and implement procurement and inventory control strategies
  • Negotiate with vendors to achieve business objectives
  • Track, measure and analyze vendor and supplier performance to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, price, continuity, and delivery
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing departments to determine supply needs
  • Supervise stock room and maintain inventory levels to ensure on time deliveries
  • Manage inventory cycle count process and physical inventory
  • Supervise shipping and receiving duties as they relate to both incoming and outgoing materials and finished goods
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, determine root cause and corrective/preventive action as needed
  • Ensure that the company standard practices and procedures are followed in connection with all department functions
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Required education and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment as a Materials Manager or related experience
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems
  • Experience in negotiating prices, terms and conditions
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Preferred education and experience:

  • 10 years of experience in materials procurement, planning and management in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in a high dollar/low volume manufacturing environment


  • Effective leader with management and supervisory experience
  • Strong communication skills required (verbal, written and interpersonal)
  • Excellent negotiation, organization, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Positive self-starter that promotes a team environment
