CNC Milling Applications Engineer (Mastercam / Fusion 360 - 4–5 Axis | Fanuc/Heidenhain AS9100) - Job Description

Employment type: Full‑time (on‑site or remote as defined below)
Location: O'Hare industrial corridor - Elk Grove Village Business Park (by the new Elk Grove Technology Park)

About the role

Confidential AS9100‑certified precision machining job shop (build‑to‑blueprint and customer specifications) is hiring a Milling Applications Engineer to drive reliable CNC programming and process execution for high‑mix, tight‑tolerance work.

Equipment includes modern Fanuc‑based machines:

  • Horizontal 5‑axis machining centers
  • Trunnion 5‑axis machining centers
  • B‑axis swivel‑head 5‑axis machining centers
  • All vertical mills equipped with 4th axis

What you'll do

  • Program 3/4/5‑axis milling using Mastercam and/or Fusion 360, with strong emphasis on 4th & 5th‑axisstrategy (3+2 and simultaneous where applicable).
  • Build machining approaches that balance quality, cycle time, tool life, and repeatability-not one‑off "it ran once" programs.
  • Create clear, shop‑ready documentation: setup sheets, tool lists, workholding notes, operation sequence, and critical callouts.
  • Support prove‑outs and process improvements with setup/fixture personnel and operators (reduce variability, improve first‑pass yield, stabilize workholding, eliminate rework).
  • Work in an AS9100 environment with disciplined program release practices (revision awareness, correct print/spec use, clean handoff to the floor).

Remote work option (VPN + NDA)

Remote work is available for qualified candidates for assigned programming/tasks.

  • Programmer will VPN into our network (work performed inside our environment).
  • Strict NDA required (and compliance with customer/spec confidentiality).
  • Remote work must be performed from a secure, distraction‑controlled workspace with reliable internet and availability for coordination/prove‑out support as needed.

(On‑site candidates are welcome; on‑site presence may be required at times depending on job complexity/prove‑outs.)

Required

  • 4‑axis mill programming experience (required).
  • 5‑axis programming & machining experience (strongly preferred).
  • Proficiency in Mastercam and/or Fusion 360 (solids/surfaces, verification/simulation, clean toolpath organization).
  • Ability to create usable setup documentation that a machinist can run without guessing.
  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T; true build‑to‑blueprint discipline.
  • Comfortable with real shop constraints: clearance, workholding, tool stickout, chatter control, chip evacuation, and tolerance stack reality.

Benefits & terms

Health, Dental, Vision, Life insurance offered; company pays 85%+ of employee premiums.
60‑day try‑out period. Industry references required. EOE.
