Tool Maker - Job Description
Join Adkev Adkev, a leader in precision injection molding and manufacturing, is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Toolmaker at our Harwood Heights, IL facility. At Adkev, our tooling department plays a critical role in maintaining the quality, efficiency, and reliability of our manufacturing operations. We are looking for an experienced professional who takes pride in craftsmanship, problem-solving, and precision machining. Position Summary The Toolmaker is responsible for building, repairing, troubleshooting, and performing preventative maintenance on molds, fixtures, spare parts, and tooling components used in production. This position supports manufacturing operations by ensuring tooling is maintained to the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance. The Toolmaker works closely with production, engineering, and setup personnel to minimize downtime, improve tooling performance, and support Adkev's commitment to operational excellence and IATF quality standards. Key Responsibilities - Repair molds and tooling as needed to support production requirements and minimize downtime
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to machine tooling components accurately
- Operate tool room equipment including lathe, mill, grinder, and EDM machines
- Machine replacement parts and monitor tooling component inventory
- Assist with mold teardown, cleaning, and preventative maintenance activities
- Troubleshoot tooling and processing issues in collaboration with set-up and production teams
- Provide technical support to engineering and production personnel when needed
- Maintain accurate documentation of tooling repairs, maintenance activities, and shift reports
- Ensure tooling and equipment meets safety and quality standards
- Maintain clean and organized work areas in accordance with housekeeping and safety expectations
- Adhere to Adkev, Inc.'s policies, procedures and instructions
- Adhere to Adkev, Inc.'s No Fault Attendance policy
- Performs other duties as requested by the Quality Manager of Adkev, Inc.
Qualifications - Associate degree in Machine Trades, Tool & Die, Manufacturing Technology, or related field preferred
- Equivalent experience considered with 4+ years of Toolmaker or mold repair experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience working with injection molds, tooling, and precision machining equipment preferred
- Strong blueprint reading and machining skills
- Knowledge of shop mathematics including geometry and trigonometry
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments and machining tools accurately
- Basic computer and documentation skills preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively across departments
