Compliance Manager - Job Description


Compliance Manager

The Compliance Manager will play a hands-on role in managing and safeguarding critical data assets in compliance with industry regulations, including ITAR, EAR, and other aerospace and defense standards. This position ensures that data governance policies and operational practices align with organizational objectives, regulatory requirements, and best practices. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment, with a strong focus on operational execution and data integrity.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure compliance
    with ITAR, EAR, FAR/DFARS, and CUI regulations.
  • Classify and label data based on sensitivity and regulatory requirement
  • Manage the lifecycle of data, including creation, storage, usage, and disposal.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to internal policies and external
    regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate data-related risks.
  • Assist with the preparation of documentation and evidence for regulatory audits.
  • Implement and monitor access controls to ensure appropriate data use.
  • Work with IT teams to troubleshoot and resolve data integrity issues.
  • Develop and maintain reporting mechanisms to track data accuracy, usage, and
    compliance.
  • Educate employees on data governance practices and compliance requirements.
  • Act as a liaison between departments to ensure consistent application of data policies.
  • Support internal stakeholders in understanding and utilizing data responsibly.
  • Participate in investigations of data breaches or compliance violations.
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans to prevent future incidents.
  • Manage and maintain the organization's registration and compliance status on
    SAM.gov, ensuring timely updates and renewals in accordance with federal contracting
    requirements.

Experience:

  • 3–5 years of experience in data governance, compliance, or a related role, preferably
    within a data-regulated industry such as healthcare (e.g., HIPAA), finance, or life
    sciences.
  • Strong understanding of data classification, governance frameworks, and regulatory
    compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2).
  • Experience in managing and ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks related to
    sensitive data.
  • Proficiency in using data management and governance tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, ERP
    systems, or GRC software).
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex compliance topics to cross-functional teams and
    provide training as needed.
  • Knowledge of risk management practices and privacy/data protection regulations is a
    plus.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Data Management,
    or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific regulatory frameworks such as HIPAA, GDPR, PCI-DSS,
    or similar.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), Certified
    Data Management Professional (CDMP), or Certified Information Systems Security
    Professional (CISSP)) are a plus but not required.
  • Prior experience working with compliance and governance teams in a regulated
    industry, particularly healthcare or similar fields, is highly preferred.
