Engineering Manager - Job Description


 Job Title: Engineering Manager

Reports To: C.O.O.

Summary/Objective:

The engineering manager plans, organizes, directs, or coordinates engineering activities to meet company objectives for design, new part/process development and improvement of existing parts/processes by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

Essential Functions/Duties:

  • Select, develop, train, and supervise engineering staff.
  • Create and maintain part master, part routing, operational prints, tooling prints and other documents as required on production parts.
  • Review, approve and process customer-initiated changes and internal change requests.
  • Provide technical guidance/assistance to customers, suppliers, and co-workers.
  • Create miscellaneous non-production technical drawings and non-technical documents as required.
  • Establish and maintain robust engineering document control systems.
  • Develop, determine, and implement policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Report on and maintain Key Process Indicator (KPI) goals.
  • Provide assistance on new equipment justification projects.
  • Participate in cost reduction/process improvement projects.
  • Promote Quick Response Manufacturing (QRM) principles as part of continuous improvement activities.

Equipment/Machines Used:

  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software (Epicor)
  • Computer Aided Design software (AutoCAD)
  • Microsoft Office applications (outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Measure equipment (micrometer, caliper, optical comparator, etc.)
  • Finite Element Analysis software (DEFORM)

Work Environment:

  • Much of the day is spent sitting and working in a professional work environment.
  • Frequent exposure to normal machine shop environment (smoke, oil mist, and shop noise)
  • Travel is minimal and is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required based on customer or supplier needs.

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree preferred
  • 10 years of related work experience

Experience in all phases of tool design, fastener manufacturing and product engineering
