Vice President of Engineering - Job Description

Primary Function:

The Vice President of Engineering serves a crucial role in driving the strategic engineering, with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement, innovation, and customer satisfaction. This position will lead a team of engineers and collaborate closely with various departments to ensure the efficiency, quality, and success of our manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop and implement strategic engineering direction including continuous improvement and innovation efforts.
  • Collaborate with customers to identify improvement opportunities to help maintain consistently high levels of customer satisfaction, savings and loyalty.
  • Develop and maintain cost effective manufacturing processes and procedures from customer drawings specifications and part models ensuring conformance to customer requirements and quality.
  • Ownership of Industry 4.0 processes and projects for production floor and production support improvements and metrics
  • Understand, align, and articulate company capabilities, services, and strengths to the needs of the customer.
  • Work with sales and engineering teams to manage the RFQ process from inception through award of business.
  • Lead, coach, direct, and evaluate the work of the Engineer team members.
  • Lead the ECC process throughout the company to ensure we're meeting or exceeding customers' expectations in a timely fashion.
  • Assist other departments by providing ongoing technical support of projects including manufacturability, cost estimates throughout projects.
  • Lead and assign projects including support of the MRB process, RCA (Root Cause Analysis), operations, quality, and problem-solving manufacturing process issues.
  • Develop and maintain the appropriate documentation for projects, parts, fixtures, tooling, and assemblies, including engineering and manufacturing process changes.
  • Attend and participate in organizational meetings within the company and customers when appropriate.
  • Analyze machine utilization and efficiencies while identifying underlying problems.
  • Review customer supplied and internal documents and models for contractual requirements and manufacturability and work with team to determine the proposed course of action to satisfy each contract.
  • Collaborate with Production and Quality, as appropriate, to identify, propose, plan, and implement process refinements and enhancements.
  • Conduct oneself in a manner consistent with company mission, values, code of ethics, policies, and other standards of conduct.
  • Exercise the usual authority of a manager in terms of Human Resource situations, namely hiring, training, counseling, employee relations, performance evaluation, promotions, and terminations.
  • Perform other additional duties, as required.

Competencies Required:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in any business situation.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software
  • Develop CNC Swiss and Turning Center programs and processes.
  • Develop process improvements for tooling, equipment, and processes.
  • Program PartMaker or similar CAM software
  • Lead engineering reviews with customers and the PSI team
  • Create effective work-flow processes, initiating lean projects.
  • Apply 5S and lean manufacturing techniques.
  • Suggest budget and implement improvements and provide ROI in a timely fashion.
  • Preferred skill: Experience with Global Shop Solution software.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, stand, sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel parts. Sitting may be required up to 90% of the time. The employee must be able speak and understand English. The employee may need to lift up 25 pounds without assistance and more with appropriate assistance, if needed.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Ear protection may be required for certain processes. Closed-toed shoes and eye protection are required for all activity on the shop floor.
