Primary Function:

The primary responsibility of the CNC Turning Machinist is to manufacture quality parts to the blue print specification utilizing the resources available within their department to meet the customer requirements. Becoming the expert of our NEW Doosan Puma TT1800 and TT2100 Lathes which features two spindles, two tool turrets, and y-axis capabilities.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manufacture quality product to the customer specification
  • Operate CNC Turning lathes in an efficient and safe manner
  • Make tool adjustments on machines and work with engineers on tooling issues and opportunities for improvements
  • Check the quality of parts produced on a regular basis
  • Report any scrap made in Global Shop and follow procedures
  • Perform minor machine repairs and machine maintenance as needed
  • Comply with all quality policies, specifications, regulations and instructions
  • Support production team troubleshooting
  • Provide ideas and assist with implementation of 5S programs for the Tool Crib, CNC machines and other key production areas to improve productivity and quality and reduce waste
  • Lead the production team to keep the areas clean and support FOD prevention.
  • Tool lists – review current tool list for each job and look for opportunities to improve process and equipment, before and after the job run to align the Tool Crib
  • Properly recording all labor and production activities into Global Shop
  • Identify and support Continuous Improvement Opportunities

Swiss CNC Setup/Operator Requirements

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with CNC Turning Centers
  • Ability to setup a job on a CNC Turning machine, preferably Doosan TT1800 and/or TT2100
  • Programming preferred but not required
  • Ability to verify part conformity using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other gauges and measuring equipment
  • Ability to read and analyze engineering prints
  • Strong math skills
  • Ability to relate to team members well and ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Attitude of openness to change and exhibit a desire to improve every day

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to walk, stand, sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel parts. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, and crouch.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with appropriate assistance. Must be able to be on feet (not sitting) up to 95% of the time.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Ear protection may be required for certain processes. Closed-toed shoes and eye protection are required for all activity on the shop floor.
