TOOLROOM SUPERVISOR - Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: Overall responsibility and authority for day-to-day operations of Toolroom. Coordinate departmental interface and oversee all aspects of operation. Supervise the Toolroom while working closely with Engineering, Production, Sales and Accounting to ensure profitability of company and compliance with all governmental, state, local and customer requirements. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Coordinate tooling projects in toolroom. Approve, maintain and update schedule, assign work to tool makers based on availability and skill level.
- Support production department by overseeing and managing troubleshooting of all new tooling projects, die repair, and maintenance.
- Purchase required perishable tooling and tooling raw material for jobs.
- Resolve routine and complex manufacturing problems by conferring with engineering and quality personnel.
- Represent Toolroom at all production meetings and other meetings as scheduled.
- Recruit and interview applicants, communicate and enforce expectations, recommend pay adjustments, manage performance, provide coaching and counseling, recommend dismissal and promotions.
- Support and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Perform all duties of tool & die journeyman (as needed).
- Support product development by reviewing new product plans. Discuss equipment needs and modifications with others. Coordinate activities of the workforce to ensure objectives are met.
- Act as role model to employees providing honest, positive guidance while supporting company policies.
- Attend educational workshops, review professional publications, establish personal networks, and participate in professional societies.
- Suggest and initiate continuous improvement goals throughout the company.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & COMPETENCY - High School Diploma or equivalent and successful completion of Journeyman Tool Maker training through accredited institution such as TMA.
- Ability to pass company ISO, English and Math tests.
- Understanding of Lock-out / Tag-out, Hazard Communication, PPE and Emergency Evacuation procedures.
- Ability to effectively convey written and/or verbal instructions to staff.
- Knowledge of all Toolroom machines, equipment, processes and documentation.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Stamina to work all assigned hours.
- Ability to use hands 100% of the workday.
- Required to hear and speak 100% of the workday.
- Ability to stand and or walk 80% of the workday.
- Ability to bend, stoop or twist 50% of the workday.
- Ability to exert physical force to push, pull, lift or carry 50 pounds frequently.
- Ability to work in a shop environment - continuous exposure to potentially hazardous metal working machinery and equipment, loud noises, dust, mist, oils and solvents.
