Material Handler - Job Description

We're a family-owned shop where the people on the floor keep everything moving. We're hiring a self-motivated Material Handler to join our Production team. This is a great fit if you're reliable, mechanically inclined, and take pride in keeping material organized and production fed. What You'll Do- Load and unload raw materials - including steel coils over 5,000 lbs and sheet stock - into equipment such as powered de-reelers and coil cradles.
- Straighten and center coil lines when required.
- Unload trucks, receive material certifications, and move raw material to the correct warehouse area.
- Inspect coils and sheets for SPC compliance - refuse non-conforming deliveries and report them to the right personnel.
- Move steel coils and sheets from storage to the assigned production machine as needed.
- Maintain accurate inventory of all raw material on the production floor.
- Complete all paperwork, move tickets, and data-collection entries accurately and on time.
- Follow written and verbal instructions and keep your work area clean and organized.
- Take an active part in our safety initiatives.
What You Bring - Strong mechanical aptitude and a safety-first mindset.
- Ability to read lot numbers, shipping orders, and packing slips.
- Basic computer and data-collection skills.
- Comfort using measuring devices and gages, including the calibration process.
- Willingness and ability to certify on fork trucks and learn our coil-moving equipment - we'll train you.
- Basic English reading and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to pass our company ISO, English, Safety, and Math assessments.
Nice to Have- Prior warehouse or material-handling experience.
- A current forklift certification.
- Experience with coil-handling equipment such as de-reelers and coil cradles.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements- A hands-on shop role: standing, walking, and using your hands throughout the workday, with regular bending, stooping, or twisting.
- Ability to occasionally push, pull, lift, or carry up to 50 pounds, and to work safely around heavy material.
- Vision of 20/20 (with or without correction) and the ability to communicate clearly on the floor.
- Stamina to work all assigned hours, including overtime as needed.
- Comfort in a shop environment with ongoing exposure to metalworking machinery, loud noise, dust, mist, oils, and solvents.
