Quality Engineer (Fabrication) - Job Description


MJ Celco is a family owned metal stamping and fabrication company located in Schiller Park. We are seeking an experienced Fabrication Quality Engineer to support our quality systems, manufacturing processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Position Summary

The Fabrication Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring products and processes meet customer requirements, regulatory standards, and internal quality objectives. This role works closely with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Customers to improve product quality, process capability, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Systems

  • Support and maintain compliance with ISO 9001:2015.
  • Participate in internal, customer, and certification audits.
  • Develop and maintain quality procedures, work instructions, and inspection standards.
  • Ensure proper document control and record retention.

Product & Process Quality

  • Develop inspection plans and quality control methods.
  • Review customer drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Create and maintain Control Plans, PFMEAs, Process Flow Diagrams, and Inspection Plans.
  • Verify compliance of fabricated components to customer specifications.

Inspection & Measurement

  • Establish receiving, first-piece, in-process, and final inspection requirements.
  • Analyze dimensional inspection data and process capability.
  • Support inspection equipment including Virtek Laser QC, calipers, micrometers, height gages, comparators, and other measurement systems.
  • Ensure calibration systems remain compliant.

Corrective Actions & Continuous Improvement

  • Investigate internal quality issues, customer complaints, and supplier concerns.
  • Utilize 8D and 5 Why methodologies to identify root causes.
  • Implement and verify corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Customer & Supplier Support

  • Respond to customer quality concerns and corrective action requests.
  • Support PPAP submissions and customer audits.
  • Assist with supplier quality investigations and incoming material issues.

Qualifications

Required

  • 3–7 years of Quality Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in automotive, aerospace, medical device, electronics, fabrication, stamping, machining, welding, or related industries.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Blueprint reading and GD&T
    • SPC and process capability analysis
    • Root cause analysis
    • Inspection and metrology systems
    • Microsoft Office

Experience With

  • APQP
  • PPAP
  • PFMEA
  • Control Plans
  • SPC
  • MSA
  • 8D Problem Solving
  • CAPA Systems
  • Internal Auditing

Preferred

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)
  • ISO 9001 auditing experience
  • Experience in metal fabrication, stamping, machining, welding, or electronic assembly

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Frequent walking throughout the facility.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Use of required PPE.
